The Aeri de Montserrat is an aerial cable car which provides one of the means of access to the Montserrat mountain and abbey. It can be found near the city of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. (Credit: Wikimedia Commons/David)
Montserrat - the city was destroyed and buried under 1.4 metres of ash. The airport and docking facilities were destroyed and many people left for nearby Antigua, Guadeloupe or other islands. The entire southern part of the island was abandoned and an exclusion zone was created around the volcano meaning travel to the south was restricted.
This sculpture is also found at Montserrat, however is much different from the other. This is called "Stairway to Understanding." It appear to have a modern style, however it also has some religious meaning. The rectangular blocks represent stone, flame, plant, beast, men, angel, and God. This shows that sculptures do not have to be at a church or realistically represent a saint in order to have a religious meaning.
