Located in the Pearl Island archipelago in the Gulf of Panama. The island is where the Spanish would count the pearls harvested on the other islands and is where the exiled Shah of Iran stayed for a brief period in
Isla Contadora, Panama. Loved this Island. It's one of the closest to Panama City. Went there on our 8th Grade field day towards the end of the school year at St. Mary's Catholic School in Balboa, what was then the US Canal Zone. We actually went over in an LST (Landing Ship/Tank) which was a naval vessel created during World War II to support amphibious operations.
On a Panamanian island, workers of the crazy ant (Paratrechina longicornis) drinking from nectaries on the underside of a leaf. Many plants attract ants with nectaries, and the ants in return help remove the plant's herbivorous pests.
