Sigmund Freud(Born: Sigismund Schlomo Freud) 6 May 1856 – 23 September 1939 -Jewish Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist, founder of the psychoanalytic school.

The family of Sigmund Freud, the pioneer of psychoanalysis, lived in Austria and Germany until the 1930s before emigrating to England, Canada and the United States. Several of Freud's descendants have become well known in different fields.

Sigmund Freud memorial in Hampstead, North London. Sigmund and Anna Freud lived at 20 Maresfield Gardens, near this statue. Their house is now a museum dedicated to Freud's life and work. The building behind the statue is the Tavistock Clinic.

Freud admitted that "he too had to overcome resistances before accepting the unpalatable truth," and was somewhat prepared for his colleagues' negative reaction to his paper. When the reaction did come it was swift and severe, and conveyed that unless Freud recanted, his future as a psychotherapist would be in jeopardy. Giving up his 'erroneous' view allowed Freud to participate again in a medical society that had earlier ostracized him. In 1905 Freud publicly retracted the seduction theory.
