As a Mexican-American (from Texas), I prefer to celebrate Dia de los Muertos over Halloween. The cultural significance and the spiritual nature of the holiday vibe with me in a way that the latter simply does not.  It’s not a scary holiday that focuses on death, rather, it’s a celebration of life, with a twist.  Some folks are turned off by the calavera representations of people in life-like settings, but I see them as symbols ― reminders, really ― that life & death are inexorably
