En un núcleo denso y urbano de Osaka compuesto por viviendas adosadas, Ando insertó una sencilla y estrecha residencia rectangular de hormigón. La Casa Azuma rompía con la estética del vecindario pero con el paso del tiempo se ha integrado en el mismo. Con espacios que flanquean un patio interior, hay un intento de devolver el "contacto con la luz, el aire, la lluvia y otros elementos naturales" al estilo de vida japonés.
