Winter carp fishing in Utah with chick peas, panko and grits for carp bait. Tommy and I got stuck in the Salt lake City Utah airport when a winter storm buried Virginia. I had my carp rods and carp reels but not much else, so I went to the grocery store and boat ingredients to make a great winter carp bait. Because corn is illegal to use as bait in Utah I used chick peas instead. And instead of a method lead and hair rigs I used #8 bait hooks and a inline egg sinker.
Took a trip down to Virginia Beach, Va. to try and catch some white catfish and carp with my friend Barry. Kinda of slow, but not bad for January. Used corn and panko for the carp and squid for the catfish. For more information about catching carp and catfish check out our website at www.catsandcarp.com
This video explains how to catch carp in winter. The keys to cold weather carp fishing is using a good winter carp bait, finding warm water, using bite alarms and hangers to detect drop back bites, staying warm and just getting out there carp fishing despite the cold. Winter carp fishing is great fun and catching a carp in the snow is a thrill.
The key to winter carp fishing is finding the warmest water. On my Christmas trip to Utah, I found this warm water creek and had a great time sight casting and stalking small carp in 1-3 feet of crystal clear water. I could see the carp, cast to them, watch them investigate and then suck up my bait. For more information about winter carp fishing, check out our website at www.catsandcarp.com
