The trademarks owned by Apple did not allow the registration of the brand iSocial in #Colombia even though the US multinational did not submit a formal opposition. The trademark application was denied by the Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio de Colombia when the Director of Distinctive Signs, Maria Jose Lamus, found out that the brand could have conflicts with the registered trademarks ICloud , IBooks Store, Itunes Store, IBooks and Itunes. #IntellectualProperty #Trademarks #Apple #Brand

#Trademark IP tip: A common error that applicants do is applying for a trademark without doing a #Search first, this leads to a possible denial. Example: The trademark registration for ¨Petpharm¨ from the company Procaps S.A. was denied by the Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio de #Colombia. This trademark wasn’t granted because there’s another distinctive sign similar called FarmaPets, and consequently these signs have sufficient capacity to lead the public to an error or confusion.

The Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio (SIC) in Colombia did not granted the registration of the distinctive sign ¨Dinamic¨ to the Sociedad Colombiana de Cardiología y Cirugía Cardiovascular. The trademark application did not received any opposition, however the Director of Distinctive Signs, José María Lamus found that the trademarks ¨Dinamic Gimnasio¨ and ¨Dynamik Corporate Events Group¨ were registered.
