Friday Art Feature

The end of our school day today marked the beginning of our March Break - YAY!!! YAY again! I was able to get a bit of laminating done, and got my newest art bulletin board up. We've been working on this art over the last two weeks while my students have also been finishing their illustrations and…

Art: Expression of Imagination

These cats are cool! The third grade designed these cat heads using oil pastels. They are pretty abstract. I love them! They really enjoyed coming up with designs for their cats!! You may have seen them hanging outside the 3rd grade room. A while back they also completed a project that focused on overlapping in a picture. They designed their own birds while overlapping them on 12"x18" drawing paper. They colored them in using art sticks. Here are some of the results...

Making a splash with David Hockney

Students in third grade learned about the artist David Hockney. We focused especially on his California influenced pool paintings from the 60's and 70's. I saw a similar project on the blog "Kids Artists". The students were focusing on line, shape, and color while working on these. We also spent a good bit of time thinking about how our hair and body look different when submerged under water. The kids loved creating the look of weightlessness in their self portrait. Hockney used interesting…

First Grade Self Portraits

I've been at Dos Rios/Two Rivers Elementary in Springfield all this week and last. We're making projects to take home, and some to sell at the Springfield First Friday Art Walk in May! This was their project that they were able to take home to their families: Self Portraits! For the older kids (grades 2-5) I did a more involved lesson on proportions of the face, colored with sharpie and tissue paper.... read that lesson by clicking here. For the Kinders and first graders, we did this version…
