I am calling these pen holders Speedbliques. They are made for use with Speedball or any broad edge nibs. The pens are not oblique but use a Zanarian style flange. This allows the nib to be rotated for cursive of italic lettering with little to no pen manipulation..
My recent acquisition of double dyed stabilized wood. I recently discovered stabilized wood after several attempts to color turned pens with Transtint dyes and transparent acrylic paints. I could not get the color depth I was hoping for with surface dyes. The stabilized double dyed boxed elder burl wood blanks are the answer for my color and texture quest.
A practice oblique with mahogany, purple heart, yellow heart and figured maple. I learned how to seal the interior slot cut of the wood to prohibit moisture. The flange is held in place with a brass pin and epoxy. Very easy to remove the flange if needed.
