Wonky Corners Block Tutorial

As promised, here is a tute on how to make this block, which I made for Sarah in the monthly Brit Bee. I've called it 'Wonky Corners' because I couldn't think of anything else! But if this block has a 'proper' name, please let me know! The effect of this block is achieved by alternating coloured strips with a dark solid (black in Sarah's block, and navy in this tutorial example). It works up to 12.5" finished. 1. Gather together scraps of fabrics. Varying lengths are good, and you could also…

Teaginny Designs: Autumnal Table Runner - like the Oakshott solids used for this modern table runner Table Runner And Placemats, Table Runner Pattern, Quilted Table Runners, Patchwork Quilting, Quilting Room, Skinny Quilts, Modern Table Runners, Contemporary Table Runners, Mid Century Modern Table

Autumnal Table Runner

I made this improv table runner as a wedding gift for a good friend. I wanted to use some gorgeous Oakshott scraps in fall colors, and that inspired me to divide the runner with a strip of brown, evoking a tree branch. The improv technique I used is a variation on slice and insert, and it creates some wonderful abstract shapes. My younger son informs me that "Abstract is when you get to make whatever you want - kind of like scribbles, but it is artwork." That's not too far off, and I'm a…

Tamarack Shack

My husband informed me that I am a Mompreneur. Oh that sounds good... so what does it mean? The defininition of a Mompreneur from the website Investopedia is: A slang term describing women who run their own businesses while also acting as a full time parent. Mompreneurs are more likely to run a business out of the home than out of a commercial building. Because of family obligations, mompreneurs have to balance the requirements of running a business with the demands of their children, and…

Garden Fence

I first played with this block last Summer when I was inspired by the pillows on the cover of Martha Stewart Living. Shannon from Pieceful Quilter named it "Garden Fence" and the name stuck. Well, my top's finally done and I'm happy with the color combination of golds, yellows, grays and white. (how do you spell gray - grey or gray?) This cold weather and snow is continuing to ruin my photography, so here's the best I can do. (And it requires moving furniture). It's a super easy quilt to…

Looking Back at 2016

I always surprize myself when I look back at all the quilting projects I finished in the year. This year there were more smaller projects but they are ones that I use all the time so I can enjoy them more. I quilted about 90 quilts for clients and that is my goal, 10 quilts a month for 9 months of the year. I have kept that number steady over the last couple of years and feel it is the right number for me. Also thank you for letting me know you enjoy my nature and Northern Lights photos…
