177K views · 22K reactions | Hello Fellow Crafters! 🤗✨ I had a few requests to explain how this particular type of Needlelace is started on a bead, so here are the steps (in this example I’m using 10 ply Malabrigo Rios yarn and a 23mm diameter wooden bead): 1. Create a Buttonhole Ring - this is the foundation for the Needlelace to follow. I used a knitting needle the same size as the bead hole (5mm in this example). As I’m right handed, and will work the Buttonhole Needlelace from left to right, I wrapped the yarn around the needle twice in a counterclockwise direction (leaving a short tail hanging, no more than 10cm). I like to use a length of yarn that will be enough to cover the entire bead (for me, 2m). Holding the two wraps and the yarn end together with your other hand, take your threaded Tapestry Needle from top to bottom, passing under the wraps, and through a “u” shape loop that you have created with the yarn (you’re basically mimicking the motion of Buttonhole Stitch, but with no fabric). Continue with these loops until you have gone around the “ring” - don’t make your stitches too close, leaving enough room to put your needle through each loop for the following round. Carefully remove the ring from the knitting needle. 2. Attach the Ring: apply a small amount of acid free or tacky glue around one bead hole. Place the ring onto this glue, lining up the centre of the ring with the hole. Be careful not to catch the loops you’ve created. Allow to dry for a few minutes. 3. Start the Needlelace: using the yarn still attached to the ring, start working the Buttonhole Lace, passing the needle through each loop that has been formed by each stitch around the foundation ring. 4. Increasing: as you work in a circular motion around the bead, you’ll need to add stitches as the bead circumference increases. Do this by making two stitches in one loop, rather than one stitch per loop. Try to make these evenly spaced (no more than every second stitch when required). 5. Continue on: continue with the Buttonhole Lace around the bead. As you reach the middle of the bead you will no longer need to increase stitches. I’ll continue with the remaining steps in the comments… | The Krafty Mobile
