The pannier from Elizabeth I’s effigy This rare garment dates to 1760 and so was not part of the original funeral effigy made in 1603. The garment is now underneath the whole costume so can only be viewed when looking under the skirt. The measurements of the pannier are of a waist of 25in and depth 16½ in. The photo does not show the colour, however it is made of red, blue and white check cotton (or linen), stiffened with cane. At either side are cushions of the same material stuffed with ...
