The Press Gang by John Collet The Foundling Museum Oil on canvas, 99.1 x 124.4 cm Collection: The Foundling Museum The scene shows a raid on a tavern to find army recruits. Near the left centre sits the officer in charge, apparently about to be bribed by a ragged boy. At a table behind sits one of his men taking the names of the new recruits. On the right a youth is pressed into the service by two men, with whom a woman (his mother?) kneels to plead, presumably in vain. Haarlem, Scene, Dutch Golden Age, Seaman, London Museums
